Volunteering Opportunity - Customer Services Volunteer, FareShare London redistributes surplus food to charities and community groups across the capital, who turn it into meals for vulnerable people. We operate a warehouse in Deptford, South East London, where we sort and store surplus food and then deliver it on our vans to our member charities and community groups across London. This role is an important cog in FareShare’s work. We need people to talk directly with our charities and community groups to create food orders for the warehouse teams to assemble. There are also frequent tasks to undertake the provide support to the teams. This role would suit someone looking to develop their customer service skills, someone looking to gain experience in the food or charity sectoror someone just hoping to help. What will I be doing? •Telephoning charities and producing paperwork to support warehouse teams to process orders •Ensuring food is allocated in accordance with membership levels and food profiles •Working with Warehouse staff to ensure any changes to food profiles are authorised •Working with databases to process orders and record food stock •Other administrative tasks such as: answering phones, dealing with queries from charities, checking delivery schedules and van progress amongst other things. We need you to be: •Confident on the phone with a polite, clear and friendly phone manner •Computer literate and able to work with database systems •Able to work well in a team, on your own and under pressure •Able to work effectively and use your initiative in a fast-paced environment •Able to follow FareShare’s policy, procedures and systems •Interested in food and committed to redistributing food waste to charities •Available to commit to a reoccurring session/day each week •Flexible – we may occasionally ask you to help in the warehouse or on other projects/tasks What you can expect in return: •Support and supervision from FareShare London staff •An induction and training for the role (inc. Food Safety and Hygiene Level 2) •Reasonable travel expenses and a free lunch •Invitations to events and offers to get involved in other areas of FareShare’s work •A work reference for those who have satisfactorily committed to at least 3 months .
